Elvis Aloha from Hawaii: A Legendary Concert

Elvis Aloha from Hawaii, also known as Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite, is widely regarded as one of the most iconic concerts in music history. Held on January 14, 1973, at the Honolulu International Center, this groundbreaking performance was transmitted live via satellite to over 40 countries, reaching an estimated global audience of over 1 billion viewers.

The Performance

Elvis Presley, at the height of his stardom, delivered a mesmerizing performance that showcased his unparalleled charisma and vocal prowess. Backed by his renowned Band and the Sweet Inspirations, he captivated the audience with a setlist that included both his classic hits and newer material. He played it safe in this concert despite singing some powerfull songs, and still managed to give an outstanding performance

From the thunderous opening chords of 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' to the poignant rendition of 'My Way,' Elvis commanded the stage with his signature moves, vocal exuberance, and undeniable stage presence. Highlights included his energetic performances of 'Suspicious Minds,' 'Burning Love,' and the beloved 'Blue Hawaii'.

Technical Innovation

Elvis Aloha from Hawaii was a groundbreaking event not only for its musical significance but also for its technical innovation. Although the "Our World TV special" was the first live international satellite television production, broadcast worldwide on June 25, 1967 which included entertainment artists such as The Beatles (headlining) and Maria Callas, Aloha From Hawaii was the first live satellite concert to be with a single performer, enabling viewers around the world to experience Elvis's performance in real-time. The concert's success showcased the growing reach of television and the power of music to connect people across borders.

Cultural Impact

Elvis Aloha from Hawaii had a profound impact on global popular culture. It introduced Elvis to a new generation of fans and solidified his status as a worldwide icon. The concert also contributed to the popularization of Hawaiian music and culture, with Elvis's renditions of 'Hawaiian Wedding Song' and 'Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai' becoming instant classics.

Moreover, the concert played a crucial role in Elvis's personal and professional life. It marked his return to the stage after a brief retirement and set the stage for his successful return to Las Vegas and subsequent concert tours.

Legacy

Elvis Aloha from Hawaii continues to be celebrated as one of the greatest concerts of all time. Its iconic status is reflected in its inclusion in the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry and its recognition as one of Rolling Stone's '500 Greatest Albums of All Time.'

Decades after its initial airing, Elvis Aloha from Hawaii remains a testament to the enduring power of Elvis Presley's music and the transformative impact of live performance on global culture.

Verdict:

Is this a concert on DVD that people need watch so they can get to know Elvis in concert ? Hell Yea !!!!!!!!!! There are a lot of videos on sites such as youtube which can be total crap or decent. Which in my mind can confuse the new fans as they may not be savvy enough, and may come accross rubbish which could give a bad impression about Elvis. But this concert is a must have. Also the CD of the show on the 12th of January with the bnus tracks is a mush have.

This concert was originally released on CD in 1985, remastered / with bonus tracks in 1998, released on the Sony Legacy label in both 2013 and 2023, FTD in 2022, and was in two boxsets in 2006 and 2012.
