Linux. The Alternative O/S
So you want to get to grips with Linux ? OK, well here is some information (and sites) to help you get to know the alt OS.
I personally use a dual boot machine, running Windows 7 and either Arch Linux or Manjaro. Manjaro is based on Arch Linux.

A Quick Heads Up
Linux isnt for the feint hearted. If you cant use Windows, or dont want to learn, then dont go near Linux.
Lets put it this way. I love using Analogies, and heres one to show the difference between Windows Users and Linux Users, and this is from personal experience.
A typical Windows user is someone who drives a big 4×4 automatic. They know where to put the fuel and how to drive, but thats it. If they have any problems, flat tyre, windscreen wash, check oil, they dont wanna know, dont wanna learn, or cant be bothered to do it and get their hands dirty.
A Linux user has to be an amatuer mechanic. The only difference is the level of mechanic that they want to be.
At the one end (Ubuntu) they know how to change a tyre, check the engine oil, fill up windscreen wash and change a fuse on top of being able to drive.
At the other end (Arch, Slackware, Slax) they will come home on a friday night, get changed, eat, then spend the whole weekend pulling the engine out, strip, clean, install new parts, rebuild, put engine back in, top up all fluids, and on a sunday night be able to start the engine, and it works, so Monday morning they can drive to work.
If you want to use a computer, you are expected to learn basic stuff. You cant just sit there and expect friends to come running round to solve your problems, this is all part of the fun. Not learning computers is also part of the problem of why there is virus, malware, trogans and ID theft. There is a big problem with spam.
Im not saying I dont like to help. But Im one of those who will explain in nooby terms twice so you can get the hang of it, and next time be able to fix the problem yourself. I just get cheesed off when I try teaching basics, and it goes in one ear and out the other so that three months later, Im there again fixing the same problem.
